Land Development Department Leverages AI Chatbot “Nong Din Dee” to Tackle Rising Fertilizer Costs

Thailand’s Land Development Department is accelerating the use of digital technology to support farmers amid rising fertilizer costs, introducing an AI-powered soil information service via the Line application. The initiative aligns with the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives’ policy to reduce production costs by promoting efficient fertilizer use. Through the “Nong Din Dee” chatbot, farmers can instantly access soil data, fertilizer recommendations, and land-use planning tools—helping them make more informed agricultural decisions in real time.

According to Director-General Sumitra Wattana, the system provides comprehensive soil management data, including soil characteristics, suitability for crops, and guidelines for soil improvement. Available 24/7, the AI chatbot enables users to interact easily through chat or menu-based functions, such as the “Check-in, Check Soil” feature, which offers tailored fertilizer recommendations based on specific crop types and local conditions. This reduces the risk of overusing chemical fertilizers, lowers costs, and addresses supply shortages—especially in light of global uncertainties impacting
fertilizer prices.

Beyond advisory services, the platform also connects farmers with access to agricultural inputs such as microbial products, green manure crops, and compost materials. By integrating AI into agricultural extension services, the initiative marks a shift toward precision farming and data-driven decision-making in Thailand’s agricultural sector. As digital adoption expands, tools like “Nong Din Dee” are expected to play a crucial role in enhancing productivity, sustainability, and resilience among Thai farmers.
