Government to Raise Medical Equipment Standards from 20 June 2026

The Thai government has announced updated public safety regulations for medical devices, with criteria for labels and accompanying documents set to take effect on June 20, 2026, to ensure clarity, safety, and accurate information for consumers.

Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office Lalida Periswiwatana stated that the government, under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, prioritizes public safety in health products. To support this, the Ministry of Public Health has updated the criteria for medical device labeling and documentation to ensure they are modern, clear, and appropriate for current healthcare settings.

The new framework requires all manufacturers, importers, licensed distributors, and registered operators to provide clear labels and documents. These materials must include comprehensive product information and must not contain false, exaggerated, or misleading therapeutic claims.

Labels and user manuals for consumer-grade medical equipment intended for home use must be in Thai. Specialized equipment for healthcare professionals may be used in either Thai or English. All materials must clearly state the product name, intended use, instructions, warnings, contraindications, precautions, batch numbers, manufacturing and expiration dates, and the name and address of the manufacturer or importer.

The updated regulations permit electronic instructions, including QR codes, websites, and similar digital channels, to improve access to information for the public and healthcare professionals. Specific requirements have also been set for medical software, mobile applications, structural accessories, and dental devices to ensure verifiable safety standards.

To support business adjustment, operators with inventory produced under previous guidelines will have a two-year grace period from the enforcement date to update their packaging. This ensures a smooth transition to the new consumer protection standards.
