The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has officially included two significant Thai commemorations in its Anniversaries Celebration program for 2026-2027. The decision was made during the 43rd General Conference on 13 November 2025, in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
🔸100th Birthday Anniversary of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great (Rama IX)
🔹100th Anniversary of Queen Rambhai Barni Contributions to Education, Social Development, and Gender Equality
Permanent Secretary of Thailand's Ministry of Education and the Thai representative at the conference, Suthep Kaengsanthia, expressed that this recognition is a source of immense national pride and affirms the honor of both royal figures who dedicated their lives to the welfare of the Thai people and humanity—values that align perfectly with UNESCO's mission to promote education, science, culture, and peace.
King Bhumibol initiated over 4,000 royal development projects covering water management, agriculture, environment, and community development. His "Sufficiency Economy Philosophy" gained international acclaim, earning him the title of "The Development King."
Queen Rambhai Barni played a pivotal role in promoting education, particularly women's education, social development, arts and culture, and charitable missions aimed at improving people's quality of life. Her forward-thinking vision laid crucial foundations for gender equality and societal progress in Thailand.
This UNESCO recognition stands as the highest international tribute to both royal figures, reinforcing global acknowledgment of their dedication to prosperity, equality, and peace—an inspiration for future generations worldwide.
