Thailand Rises as China’s Third-Largest Ornamental Fish Exporter Advancing Sustainable Growth in the Global Market

Thailand’s ornamental fish market continues to grow steadily, ranking as the third-largest exporter to China, behind Indonesia and Malaysia. This reflects the strength of Thai ornamental fish in global competition, noted for their variety, vibrant colors, distinctive traits, and high breeding quality.

Chinese consumers favor small ornamental fish, especially Thai bettas, known for their striking colors and graceful swimming, such as the crown tail and giant bettas. Other popular species include Thai tiger barb and lionhead goldfish, which are highly sought after by high-end collectors. Fishkeeping in China is also tied to trends in mental health care, relaxation, and artistic office decoration.

With China’s ornamental fish market expanding rapidly and holding high value, Thai entrepreneurs have opportunities to grow and diversify their businesses through breeding that caters to niche tastes, and logistics planning to improve survival rates during long-distance shipping.

Thailand’s efforts to elevate its ornamental fish industry globally are progressing systematically, using marketing strategies, participation in international trade shows, and targeted online media campaigns in key markets to build broad awareness and increase value in the international arena.
