Thailand Builds Lampang As Northern Transport Hub Investing in Major Infrastructure!

Thailand is set to drive the future of its northern region with a major investment of over 678.9 million baht in the “Highway 11 to Highway 1 Intersection” Phase 1 project (a 5.4-kilometer stretch) in Mueang District, Lampang Province, expected to be completed by 2027.

Lampang was chosen as the northern transport center due to its central location—making it a strategic hub with great potential to develop into a key freight transfer point. It will connect the economies of both upper and lower northern regions and serve as an “economic gateway” to the Greater Mekong Subregion countries.

The project covers high-standard infrastructure, including a 4- to 10-lane highway, a 580-meter railway overpass, and three bridges spanning canals, aimed at solving traffic congestion in the city, especially along the main route, Phahonyothin Road (Highway 1).

Once completed, the project is expected to reduce travel time and distance by about 3 kilometers through the city. More importantly, it will separate freight traffic from urban areas, significantly improving safety for road users. This upgrade will strengthen northern transportation networks and serve as a vital foundation to boost economic growth and cross-border trade.
