Thailand Accelerates OECD Membership Bid, Uses AI to Align Laws and Economy by 2028

The Thai government is stepping up preparations for the country's accession to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) by 2028, aiming to bring national legal and economic frameworks up to global standards and create new opportunities for citizens.

Under the supervision of Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapunt, the Council of State Office has been intensifying efforts to harmonize the country's laws, policies, and administrative practices with OECD standards to ensure a smooth evaluation process.

Thailand has now entered a crucial stage known as the technical review, in which OECD experts conduct an in-depth assessment of how closely the country's legal frameworks and policy practices conform to OECD benchmarks.

A central component of the initiative is the adoption of artificial intelligence under the "TH2OECD" project. The project focuses on three main areas: developing accurate Thai–English legal translation models, applying retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques to identify gaps between Thai regulations and OECD legal instruments, and building OECD-compliant government data structures.
