Experience one of Thailand’s most iconic cultural festivals, where ancient Buddhist traditions blend with vibrant local folklore. Held annually in Dan Sai, the festival commemorates the Vessantara Jataka and honors Phra Upakut, the revered guardian spirit believed to protect the community.

Festival highlights include the ceremonial invitation of Phra Upakut, traditional merit-making rituals, the colorful Phi Ta Khon (Ghost Festival) parade, rocket-launching ceremonies for rain blessings, and cultural performances unique to Dan Sai.

The main Phi Ta Khon procession takes place on 21 June, featuring elaborately crafted masks, lively parades, and community celebrations throughout the town.

Recognized as one of Thailand’s most distinctive cultural events, the Bun Luang and Phi Ta Khon Festival offers a rare opportunity to experience the traditions, beliefs, and creativity of Loei’s Dan Sai community.
