Thailand Hosts International Meeting to Expand Cooperation Against Human Trafficking Linked to Technology-Enabled Crime

Law enforcement representatives from 11 countries met in Thailand on June 30 to expand cooperation against human trafficking linked to technology-enabled crime, including call center scam networks. The meeting also included officials from Thai government agencies, the International Organization for Migration, U.S. Homeland Security Investigations, and the Lancang-Mekong Integrated Law Enforcement and Security Cooperation Center.

Participants exchanged information on criminal tactics, emerging trends, and enforcement challenges, and discussed closer cooperation on intelligence sharing, cross-border investigations, financial tracking, victim rescue and repatriation, and efforts to locate suspects and dismantle transnational criminal networks. Pol. Gen. Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, deputy commissioner-general of the Royal Thai Police and director of the Royal Thai Police Anti-Human Trafficking Center, chaired the meeting.

According to Pol. Gen. Thatchai, participating countries assisted 14,694 trafficking victims from 46 nationalities between February 20, 2025, and March 31, 2026. Thailand repatriated 2,774 Thai nationals from Cambodia between 2022 and 2026 through 105 missions after they became involved in a call center scam and illegal online gambling networks.

The meeting also considered measures to prevent people from being recruited into criminal organizations through fake investment schemes, fraudulent job offers, and romance scams.
