Thailand's First Robotic Telesurgery Bridges a 250 KM Gap

Thailand has marked a historic milestone with its first “Robotic Telesurgery”, successfully treating a prostate cancer patient at Maharat Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital. The operation was performed in collaboration with Dr. Peeradon Sapisamphan, who operated the robotic arms remotely from Nopparat Ratchathani Hospital in Bangkok, over a distance of more than 250 kilometers.

Public Health Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn stated that this success builds upon previous cross-border telesurgery with China. The Ministry plans to expand the robotic surgical system to regional medical centers nationwide, ensuring equal public access to high-standard treatments. He noted that Nopparat Ratchathani Hospital has performed 52 successful robotic surgeries since December 2025.

Minister Phiphat assured the public that the Ministry of Health is ready to review all medical procurement items. Any equipment found to be unnecessary or inefficient will have its allocation reassessed immediately to maximize public benefit. All procurement processes strictly adhere to official regulations, utilizing thorough market surveys for innovative tools, and guaranteeing complete transparency without any specification tampering.

This milestone marks a significant leap forward in Thailand's public healthcare, bridging distance gaps to ensure world-class medical access for all citizens.
