Thailand Positioned to Thrive in New Global Trade Era, Commerce Minister Says

At the “Go Thailand 2026: Beyond Survival” forum, the Commerce Minister expressed confidence in Thailand’s ability to navigate the fast-changing global economy, stressing that coordinated trade and foreign policy will be key to future success. The minister noted that global shifts driven by deglobalisation, decarbonisation, digitalisation, and demographic change are reshaping world trade, but also creating new opportunities for Thailand to upgrade its competitiveness, accelerate digital adoption, and respond to climate-related trade standards.

According to the minister, Thailand’s reputation as a neutral and trusted partner is becoming a major asset in a multipolar world, contributing to a significant surge in foreign investment this year. As many economies move toward “friend-shoring,” Thailand is increasingly viewed as a reliable partner for bilateral cooperation. The minister said Thailand can further strengthen its position by deepening ASEAN economic ties, leveraging its central geographic location as a regional logistics hub, and aligning public- and private-sector efforts under a unified national strategy.

The ministry’s approach includes expanding both new and existing markets, accelerating key trade agreements, addressing non-tariff barriers with major partners, supporting small businesses through digital tools and improved financing access, and enhancing food security to increase Thailand’s negotiating strength. The Commerce Minister said these measures aim to convert global challenges into long-term advantages, ensuring that stronger trade will drive economic growth and carry Thailand confidently toward a more prosperous future.
