Thailand Declares Crackdown on Cybercrime and Transnational Crime Networks a National Agenda

Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Anutin Charnvirakul announced the suppression of cybercrime, telecommunications fraud, and transnational nominee networks as part of the national agenda during a joint press conference with the Royal Thai Police at Government House on June 22, 2026.
Government Spokesperson Rachada Dhanadirek stated that the Prime Minister reaffirmed the government's commitment to eliminating illicit networks and foreign-nominee businesses that exploit legal loopholes and threaten national economic stability.

The government established a national steering committee and coordinated a memorandum of understanding among 15 key organizations, including the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, the Anti-Money Laundering Office, and the financial and telecommunications sectors, to strengthen data integration and accelerate public assistance.

The Prime Minister commended the Royal Thai Police, represented by Commissioner General Police General Kitrat Phanphet and senior deputies, for enforcing the law impartially and resisting external pressures.

From October 2025 to June 2026, the Online Scam Operations Center and related police units assisted 862 victims, prevented over 82 million baht in losses, closed more than 351,000 mule accounts, froze over 3.6 billion baht in illicit funds, arrested more than 29,000 suspects, and issued arrest warrants for over 70 network leaders. These efforts reduced online crime cases by 69.2 percent and financial damages by 87.3 percent.

The briefing was attended by law enforcement attachés from over 10 partner nations, including representatives from the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Australian Federal Police. The spokesperson concluded that this strong multilateral cooperation enhances cross-border intelligence sharing, strengthens Thailand’s economic security, and reinforces international confidence in Thailand's law enforcement systems.
