Thai PM Opens 29th ALMM, Championing Human Capital and Skills Recognition

Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul chaired the opening of the 29th ASEAN Labour Ministers Meeting (ALMM) and Related Meetings, held in Bangkok from 23–28 August 2026.

Under the theme "ASEAN Human Capital Development: Skills Recognition for Global Competitiveness," the meeting brings together labor leaders from across the region to strengthen cooperation on behalf of a workforce of over 357 million people.

With AI, the green economy, and aging societies reshaping the world of work, ASEAN needs a reliable skills recognition system — one that allows workers to move across borders with their qualifications recognized wherever they go.

In his opening remarks, the Prime Minister said that working together will help ASEAN raise skills standards, create greater opportunities for its people, and strengthen the region's competitiveness and resilience.

On the domestic front, Thailand is advancing its "Skill Bridge" initiative to connect lifelong learning with better income. Central to this effort are the Credit Bank system and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) — tools that ensure skills gained through education, work, or life experience are formally recognized and translated into real career opportunities.

To strengthen skills recognition across the region, Thailand is championing three key pillars:
● ASEAN training course certification
● ASEAN labor skill standards
● ASEAN Centers of Excellence

As host and active participant, Thailand remains committed to these goals, continuing to drive sustainable, inclusive growth across ASEAN.
