Prime Minister Unveils “Green Thailand” Vision at Green Bridge Forum, Positions Green Economy as the Foundation for Long-Term Growth
Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Anutin Charnvirakul has reaffirmed Thailand's commitment to pursuing economic development alongside environmental conservation, emphasizing that sustainability is not a constraint on growth but the foundation for long-term prosperity.
Prime Minister on 22 July 2026 delivered a keynote address titled “Navigating the Green Transition: Thailand's Vision for Sustainable Development and Global Climate Action” at the opening of the first Green Bridge Forum, held at the Nongnooch Pattaya International Convention and Exhibition Center in Chon Buri Province. Organized by Thailand's State Audit Office, the forum brought together representatives of Supreme Audit Institutions from across the region to exchange best practices on environmental governance and sustainable development.
According to Deputy Government Spokesperson Lalida Periswiwatana, the Prime Minister welcomed Thailand's role as host of the inaugural Green Bridge Forum and commended the State Audit Office for initiating an international platform that reinforces Thailand's commitment to environmental governance and sustainable development.
The Prime Minister noted that countries around the world were facing the common challenge of balancing economic growth with environmental protection. He stressed that the green transition is not merely an environmental policy, but a fundamental global economic transformation. Nations that adapt successfully will be better positioned to attract investment, enhance competitiveness, strengthen energy security, and build resilience against future crises.
The Prime Minister stated that Thailand would continue to build a strong, innovative, environmentally friendly, and resilient economy through investment in clean energy, modern infrastructure, future industries, responsible resource management, and innovation that boosts productivity while reducing environmental impacts.
He also underscored that a successful transition to a green economy requires strong governance, efficient public spending, measurable policy implementation, and transparency. He highlighted the vital role of the State Audit Office in evaluating government performance, promoting evidence-based policymaking, enhancing transparency, and strengthening public and investor confidence.
The Prime Minister pointed out that “trust” is a key asset in an interconnected world, enabling investment, international cooperation, and long-term structural reform, and that independent audit institutions play a crucial role in fostering trust.
Regarding the Green Bridge concept, the Prime Minister described it as a bridge connecting policy with implementation, innovation with accountability, economic growth with environmental stewardship, and national priorities with global cooperation. He emphasized that no country could tackle climate change alone and reaffirmed Thailand's commitment to working with the international community through the INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing to advance environmental governance, transparency, accountability, and sustainable development.
In closing, the Prime Minister stated that the transition to a green economy presents both a challenge and an opportunity for the world. By working together through shared vision, innovation, partnership, and good governance, countries can build stronger economies, more resilient societies, and a sustainable future for generations to come. He reaffirmed Thailand's commitment, as Chair of the INTOSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing, to working with all stakeholders to drive the green transition through good governance and transparency, paving the way for sustainable development.
