Bangkok Prepares Safety Measures for Songkran 2026

Bangkok Governor Chadchart Sittipunt (ชัชชาติ สิทธิพันธุ์) has announced safety and logistical plans for the 2026 Songkran Festival, focusing on public health due to extreme weather and high fuel costs.

For heat index expected to reach 60°C. the Governor has instructed event organizers to enforce strict health protocols, including first-aid stations, sufficient drinking water, and close monitoring to prevent heat-related illnesses.

To maintain public order, the BMA is working with the Royal Thai Police on security screenings and weapons checkpoints. Special traffic measures will be implemented in some districts such as Don Mueang, Nong Kaem (หนองแขม) and Thawi Watthana. (ทวีวัฒนา) In some areas, vehicles will be restricted from water-play zones to keep emergency medical routes clear.

He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy against the misuse of public spaces. Unauthorized fees for parking or space reservations are strictly prohibited. For popular areas like Silom, he encourages public transportation to ease traffic congestion.

He also noted that rising fuel prices may reduce interprovincial travel, resulting in more residents staying in Bangkok to ensure that essential services, including waste collection, will have adequate fuel supplies through coordination with PTT Public Company Limited.
He lastly urged the public to celebrate in accordance with Thai tradition, respect others' rights, and prioritize safety to ensure a peaceful holiday for everyone
