Thailand Joins AIBD Executive Board (EXBO) Meeting to Help Shape the Future of Asia-Pacific Media in the AI Era

On 24 August 2026 in Kathmandu, Nepal, Mrs. Nattanun Rajanakorn, Executive Director of the Foreign Affairs Office, Thailand’s Government Public Relations Department (PRD), together with PRD officials, attended the Executive Board (EXBO) Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD).

The meeting was chaired by Ms. Urbasi Basnyat of the Public Service Broadcasting Nepal (PSBN), in her capacity as Vice-Chair of the EXBO. Participating in the meeting were EXBO members from 10 countries, namely Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Malaysia, Maldives, Nepal, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Vietnam, and Thailand.

Ms. Philomena Gnanapragasam, AIBD Secretary-General, presented the 2026 progress report, highlighting AIBD’s efforts to strengthen media professionals’ capacity in areas including AI and digital transformation, media trust and sustainability, climate and disaster communication, and emerging broadcasting technologies. AIBD has also expanded technical and innovation cooperation with its members and international organizations.

Ms. Basnyat noted that emerging technologies, particularly AI, present both opportunities and challenges for public service media. She emphasized the importance of using technology for the benefit of the public while strengthening trust in information. She also highlighted cooperation in disaster and emergency communication and the exchange of knowledge, technology, and skills among members as AIBD approaches its 50-year milestone.

The EXBO also reviewed AIBD’s performance and members’ needs, financial matters, the proposed 2027 budget, and future plans. Relevant issues and recommendations will be submitted to the AIBD General Conference (GC) for further consideration.

AIBD is a regional organization established under the auspices of UNESCO. It currently has 87 member organizations from 42 countries and territories across the Asia-Pacific region. Its mission is to strengthen media, information, and communication capacity, promote international cooperation, and support sustainable media development across the region.
