Prime Minister Promotes Thailand’s Investment Potential During UK Roadshow

Government Spokesperson Ekkapob Pianpises said Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul began his visit to the United Kingdom on 25 September with meetings involving UK Trade Envoy Matt Western, representatives of Virgin Atlantic and Rolls-Royce, and leading UK institutional investors. The investor meeting was organized by the Stock Exchange of Thailand and UBS.

The Prime Minister also delivered remarks at a reception attended by more than 50 UK public and private sector representatives. He highlighted Thailand’s investment opportunities, noting that foreign direct investment rose by 37% last year. He stated that the Government was pursuing free trade agreements and membership in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) to improve the business environment. Investing in Thailand, he added, also provides access to ASEAN, a rapidly growing region with a population of more than 700 million.

He noted that several Thai companies have invested in the UK, while UK investors remain major participants in the Thai stock market. Virgin Atlantic’s direct London–Phuket service and its cooperation with Bangkok Airways and the Tourism Authority of Thailand is also expected to help attract more visitors to Thailand.

The Prime Minister invited UK companies and institutional investors to expand trade and investment, emphasizing that bilateral ties still have room to grow. He pointed to opportunities in Thailand’s stock market, other assets and direct investment, and cited policy continuity, action against online scams and recent improvements in credit-rating outlooks as factors supporting confidence in Thailand.
